Nina Whitehurst

Nina Whitehurst studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music, London, with Sydney Humphreys and David Martin. She then won a scholarship to Vienna where she studied for two years with Joseph Sivo.

On her return to London she worked with most of the prestigious London Orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Whilst a member of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, she became Secretary to the players committee and as a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra she was elected to serve as a Trustee and a member of the Board of Directors. She also sat on numerous audition panels at both the Royal Opera House and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.

She has worked as a session player, in West End Theatres, as a freelance musician and with many orchestras in the UK, Germany and Ireland. Nina’s career has taken her round the world many times both north and south or the equator.

As well as taking part in education projects with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Nina Whitehurst has maintained a flourishing teaching practice in the public and private sector and currently teaches in junior and senior departments in independent schools in Surrey. She has directed and conducted string ensembles, and coached chamber music groups to an advanced level.

Nina Whitehurst is a Trustee and Hon. Secretary of the Registered Charity, Sydenham Music, which promotes the Sydenham International Music Festival. In this roll she has taken a lead in the promotion of symphony concerts with international artists, as well as the organisation and promotion of highly successful children’s concerts and outreach work.

Nina Whitehurst is the orchestral manager of the St Bartholomew Festival Orchestra, engaging top players from the London Orchestras.
